The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment has made public the first estimates relating to the peach and nectarine campaign, which anticipate a reduction of around 15% compared to last year's production.
This has been conveyed by Agriculture to the representative organizations of the fruit and vegetable sector in a meeting held to analyze the balance of the citrus, pome fruit and winter vegetable campaigns, which are about to end, as well as to present the first forecasts of the next summer fruit campaign.
The data referred to by the Ministry refer exclusively to the early production zones (Murcia and Andalusia), which have already sent their figures, so we will have to wait a few weeks to receive the data from the late zones. Catalonia and Aragon, to be able to estimate the global forecast for Spain.
Citrus fruits, less quantity, but at a better price
Regarding citrus fruits, it has been confirmed that the campaign has recorded a decrease in production, although better prices have been recorded than in previous campaigns, as a result of lower supply.
Within pome fruit, apples have had a better campaign than last, but with prices below average. Meanwhile, the pear campaign has been adequate in relation to the price level, but with a lower level of sales than usual.
Likewise, the winter vegetable campaign has been assessed as very difficult, with poor results for most products. In this regard, the sector has expressed its concern about the tomato case.
