• Visitors will be able to experience the secrets of authentic Cieza peaches on a typical farm, from a farmer.
• They themselves will be able to collect them from the trees and enjoy their flavour in a day-laborer's lunch, along with other products and dishes from Cieza's gastronomy.
The Murcian town of Cieza, in the southeast of Spain, has a new experiential tourism offer with the 'Peach Experience' project. The company Agromarketing, in collaboration with the Cultural Association La Floración, launched last weekend an innovative agrotourism project consisting of offering visitors the experience of learning from Andrés - a young local farmer - the facilities of a typical Cieza farm - the largest producer of peaches in Europe - and the secrets of the production process to achieve the authentic Cieza peach, the best in the world.
Cieza and its surrounding area have 14,000 hectares of crops that produce 330,000 tons annually, most of which are exported to Germany, the United Kingdom, France and Italy. Andrés's farm grows traditional yellow peaches, characteristic of Cieza for their high quality, aroma and sweet taste.
With the 'Peach Experience', 'day labourers for a day' can visit the facilities of Finca La Floración de Cieza, located in the El Elipe area, for an hour and a quarter; and they can pick them from the trees themselves, climb a perigallo and enjoy their smell and flavour in situ. In addition to the educational explanation by Andrés, visitors can enjoy other dishes from Ciezan cuisine - such as split olives from Cieza, ratatouille or aubergines - in a typical lunch for day labourers.
Tour packages
Agromarketing, in collaboration with local companies Stipa Servicios Turísticos and Avensur, is going to launch tourist packages to complement the leisure and tourism offer in Cieza.
There would be a package that would combine a visit to the cave paintings, a World Heritage Site, in the Cueva de la Serreta or the Barranco de Los Grajos, with a visit to the 'Finca de Andrés' to enjoy the experience of getting to know the authentic peaches of Cieza. And another package would include the adventure experience of a descent down the Segura River with the Peach Experience.
