The Ciezano farmers wanted to appear before the citizens to explain the need they have to burn straw to prevent the fruit from freezing, and above all to apologize and understand the population for the inconvenience it is causing them.
It was this Wednesday, Manolo Martínez, president of COAG, invited the media to an assembly in which it was explained that with this technique many jobs can be saved in the field, and that it must be taken into account when assess the inconvenience they are causing to the Ciezanos, the economic damage that would be caused if the harvest were lost.
He wanted to make it clear that these are specific and authorized burns, which are only started when there is a real risk of frost, committing to continue implementing other anti-frost systems that have less environmental impact that they trust to be able to implement in the face of the next years.
The assembly was attended, in addition to the farmers and cooperative members, by the President of FECOAM, Santiago Martínez, and a representation of the municipal groups in the Cieza City Council.
